در بالای كليه ها، غده های فوق كليوی قرار گرفته اند. اين غده ها ماده ای ترشح ميكنند كه آدرنالين ناميده ميشود. آدرنالين برای آمادگی بدن در انجام فعاليت های شديد يا دفاع از خود ترشح ميشود. وقتی كه بسيار هيجانزده باشيد، غده های فوق كليوی ناگهان مقدار زيادی آدرنالين در خون ترشح ميكنند که سبب افزايش شدت ضربان قلب و كارآيی آن ميشود.

اين ماده، رگهای متصل به ماهيچه ها را گشاد ميكند و علاوه بر آن موجب افرايش غلظت قند در خون ميشود. به اين طريق است كه بدن خود را با شرايط تطبيق ميدهد. با تاثير آدرنالين، خون از چهره به ماهيچه ها هجوم آورده و به بخش هايی كه ضروری تر است جريان می يابد. برای همين است كه هنگام ترس رنگ از رخسارتان ميپرد. قرار گرفتن انسان در ارتفاع و شرایط غیرعادی مانند صحنه هایی که در تصاویر زیر می بینید نیز از همین قانون پیروی می کند چراکه جسم انسان هرچقدر هم قوی باشد در مواقع هیجان خواهی ترشح آدرنالین را يكی از ملزومات مقاومت خود می داند.
