Let's not muddy the stream
در فرودست انگار كفتري مي خورد آب
Down the stream a pigeons seems to be drinking
يا كه در بيشه دور سيره اي پر مي شويد
Or perhaps in some farther thicket, a goldfinch is washing it's plumag
يا در آبادي كوزه اي پر مي گردد
Or perhaps in some hamlet a jar is being filled

آب را گل نكنيم
Let's not muddy the stream
شايد اين آب روان مي رود پاي سپيداري تا فروشويد اندوه دلي
This Stream is perhaps running to the foot of a poplar tree to wash away the sorrows of some lonely heart
دست درويشي شايد نان خشكيده فرو برده در آب
A dervish is perhaps dipping a piece of dry bread into the stream
زن زيبايي آمد لب رود
A lovely lady has come to the lip of the stream
آب را گل نكنيم
Let's not muddy the stream
روي زيبا دو برابر شده است
Beauty is doubled

چه گوارا اين آب
What delicious water!
چه زلال اين رود
How clear a stream!
مردم بالا دست چه صفايي دارند
How cordial are the people in the upper hamlet!
چشمه هاشان جوشان، گاوهاشان شير افشان باد
May their stream jet out! May their cows give prodigious milk!
من نديدم دهشان
Never have I visited their hamlet
بي گمان پاي چپرهاشان جا پاي خداست
There must be God's footprints at the foot of their hedges
ماهتاب آنجا مي كند روشن پهناي كلام
There, moonshine must be brightening over the expanse of speech
